Day 2: Morning visit of the city of Durres.
Durres is the Albania’s second city (about 220,000 inhabitants) and home to the largest port in the country, a mandatory transit for various Albanian cities. Durres was founded by the Illyrians in the 13th century BC, and expanded greatly thanks to the tribe of Taulanti in the 9th century BC, who made it the capital. It became an important port of the Roman period (was also known as the “Tavern of the Adriatic” by the Romans). At this period an interesting amphitheater (the largest in the Balkans) was built. It was known as the greatest splendor of the city thanks to “Via Egnatia” which connected the Adriatic with Constantinople and it became a strategic transit point for both merchants and goods. Visit to the amphitheater of the Roman era (the largest in the Balkans), the historic sites of the city (Venetian tower, Ottoman Walls etc.) and the modern city (Town Hall square, the Promenade, and the Boulevard). Lunch will be served in a restaurant on the beach (Plazh) with fish. Dinner and evening will be at your leisure.
Day 3: Departure from Durres to the city of Kruja the most important city of the Albanian resistance under the leadership of Gjergj Kastrioti “Skanderbeg”. In the 15th century the Ottomans fought successfully for over 25 years. Visit the Skanderbeg Museum in the castle and the Ethnographic Museum with shopping in the old bazaar.
Lunch in a restaurant with Albanian specialties and subsequent transfer to Tirana (Albania’s capital) which has almost one million inhabitants, so nearly a third of the Albanian population is located in there. Tirana is a business city par excellence, like a western city considering the quality of life and lifestyle of the inhabitants. The nightlife is in fact like any other European city, quite different from all other Albanian cities. Italian, and especially English are spoken. Visit the city’s landmarks such as Skanderbeg Square, the Mosque of Ethem Bey, the Clock Tower, Taiwan Park. Accommodation in hotel. Dinner and evening mat your leisure to enjoy Tirana’s nightlife.
Day 4: Departure to the “Nene Tereza” airport for return.
In case of a late evening re-entry, the group leaves the suitcases loaded on the bus, and we will have free time to visit some areas of Tirana (e.g. climb by cable car to the vantage point of the city (at their own expense). Depending on the package chosen by the group, including lunch, we will charge 30 € per person for the day with a driver and a guide. In another case, the driver will pick up the tourists and transport them to the airport at the fixed time and place.
