MyEGYPT aims to empower the Egyptian public through the sharing and management of its cultural heritage in a way that is meaningful and relevant to Egyptians and their emerging society.
’s present economic and cultural situation is tied directly to the country’s tourism industry, one of Egypt's main sources of hard currency that affects approximately one fifth of Egyptians. With tourist numbers down – declining by over 33 % since the beginning of the 2011 revolution – Egypt has struggled to stabilize and to produce the funds necessary to protect and maintain the cultural sites that generate income.
The cultural sector is becoming an accepted driving element for economic development and connected fields. MyEGYPT works to enable culture and the cultural sector to be mechanisms that further Egypt's economy and the participation of Egypt's citizens in this process.
