- Eastern Cape, South Africa
Half-way between Cape Town and Durban, Port Elizabeth is situated within the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. At a distance of 770 kilometers to the east of Cape Town, Port Elizabeth is also known as the ‘Friendly City’, and which literally lives up to this fame. Set alongside the beautiful shores of the Nelson Mandela Bay, Port Elizabeth is a major sea port and tourist destination often referred to as the ‘Water Sport Capital of South Africa’.
Presently home to over 1.3 million people, Port Elizabeth was originally founded in 1820 so as to house British settlers. Occupying one end of the picturesque ‘Garden Route’ along the Cape Coast, several fine beaches are located in and around the city of Port Elizabeth. Another popular Port Elizabeth tourist attraction includes the Algoa Bay areas which offer several opportunities for scuba diving, surfing, windsurfing, kite-boarding, game fishing charters along with dolphin and whale watching tours.
