Bukit Batok Nature Reserve was developed on an abandoned quarry site in 1988. Granite was quarried at this site and this has in fact helped the area in developing as a residential area too. It has twisting and rolling footpaths lead to various scenic look-out points, some of which are as high as 10-storeyed buildings. The quarry has now been converted in to a beautiful pool, with a small stream snaking out from it. The Nature Reserve is quite a popular site for joggers and walkers who love the undulating terrain. There are lot many different kinds of trees in the reserve and the secondary forest is being regenerated to increase the vegetation. But the most popular ones are the Durian trees that had been planted by squatters long ago. The trekkers can also enjoy the sights and sounds of different varieties of birds and animals which reside in the forests.
