With an extremely friendly and helpful local population, Dakar, located on the Cap-Vert Peninsula on the Atlantic coast is the westernmost city of the African continent mainland. Serving as the capital city of the Republic of Senegal, Dakar is the main administrative centre since independence in 1960.
