Tower (Malay: Menara Alor Setar) is a 165.5 m (543 ft) telecommunication tower in Alor Setar, in the state of Kedah, Malaysia
. Apart from serving the role of a telecommunication tower, it also caters as a tourist destination for the town. The tower also houses some restaurants and a souvenir shop. The tower is an observatory tower to look for the crescent moon to mark the beginning of Muslim months such as Ramadhan, Shawwal, and Zulhijjah, to celebrate Ramadhan, Hari Raya Aidilfitri and Hari Raya Aidiladha, respectively. The observation deck is at a height of 88 m (289 ft) from the base of the structure.
At its tip is the Seri Angkasa Revolving Restaurant which specialises in a variety of sumptious local as well as international cuisine. From here, one can enjoy a spectacular view of Alor Setar and nearby Butterworth. On clear days, you can even try to spot the neighbouring country of Thailand
Besides landmark-spotting, the tower also serves as an observatory tower from which to look for the crescent moon to mark the beginning of Muslim months. The observation deck stands at a height of 88 metres from the base of the structure.
Tickets to the observation deck are MYR 6 for adults and MYR 3 for children (prices subject to change). A souvenir shop at this level ensures that breathtaking views are cemented as little trinkets for your trip home.
From Kuala Lumpur, take the North-South Expressway (PLUS), heading north towards Kedah. Take the Alor Setar Selatan exit into Alor Setar which is about 4km from this PLUS exit. The Alor Setar Tower is located in the middle of downtown Alor Setar, at the main junction of Lebuhraya Darul Aman and the Historical Palace.
