The hike starts from the visitor center where you are likely to get a glimpse of the Komodo dragons as they hang out around the cooks house and wait for food.
A ranger will accompany you on any hike into the park. The trail passes several breeding sites and if you are lucky will see a dragon in the wild.
The terrain is dry for this part of Indonesia and the upper slopes on Rinca are covered with palms. You may see monkeyes and deer. The longer routes take you up higher on the slopes and into more open terrain so you are not more likely to see a komodo but they are beautiful and the bird watching is great.
