The local community heavily rely on farming and forms an agrarian-based economy.A main landmark of Meenkunnam is a copy of Michelangelo's Pietà situated in front of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church, which was created by the artist Appukuttan. The way of the Cross to Thirurekthamala is a new addition to the blessings of this holy church. It was inaugurated on 20 February 2012.
