Itarsi is a city in Madhya Pradesh sn central India. Itarsi is located in Hoshangabad District, south of the city of Hoshangabad. Itarsi is a commercial hub for agricultural goods, and is also famous for its railway junction.
The Bori Wildlife Sanctuary and Tawa Dam are nearby. Itarsi got its name from Intt (brick) and rassi (rope) which used to be traded around the town.But now plywood factory take the place of "intt" and "rassi." Several industries are situated near the town including the ordnance factory and soya oil mills.The famous writer harishankar parsai and vipin joshi also belongs to itarsi. India's only statue of any writer (vipin joshi's) stabled in itarsi. Itarsi has own editions of news papers 1. Dainik Bhaskar. 2. Sandhya Prakash. As of 2001[update] India census, Itarsi had a population of 93,783. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Itarsi has an average literacy rate of 75%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 81%, and female literacy is 69%. In Itarsi, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.
