Day 1 - Nairobi - Wildebeest Eco Camp
Your first day in Kenya after your international flight will be a nice easy one, spent sight seeing in Nairobi visiting the David Sheldrick elephant sanctuary in the morning, followed by lunch at the Karen Blixen Coffee Garden and then heading over to either the Karen Blixen Museum or the Giraffe Centre in the afternoon (or both), alternatively you could head over to the Nairobi National Park and take a safari walk. You’ll then head to camp for dinner and an evening relaxing.

Day 2 to 4 - Meru - Ikweta Camp
You’ll depart Nairobi for Meru (5 to 6 hours by road, options to fly), a classic savannah wilderness with a diversity of habitats ranging from semi arid, riverine, forest and swamplands to grasslands. You’ll arrive for lunch at Ikweta Safari Camp, which is a small tented camp; each tent has an en suite bathroom and private veranda, there is also a large pool and a real focus on affordable luxury, with all meals cooked to order! After lunch you will head into Meru for a game drive, there are some fantastic game viewing opportunities here including cheetah, Grevy’s zebra, gerenuk and the distinctive reticulated giraffe as well as the Big Five. You’ll spend the next two days exploring Meru, with its great views of Mount Kenya, savannah wilderness, riverine habitats and prominent inselbergs, notably Mughwango and Leopard Rock; offering some great photo opportunities. Meru is also the former home of the Adamson’s and Elsa the lioness.

Day 5 & 6 - Ol Pejeta - Sweetwaters Tented Camp
After breakfast you will journey onto Laikipia (3.5 hours) and the Ol Pejeta conservancy, located in a vast plateau which has the highest density of large mammals in Kenya, including unusual species such as the reticulated giraffe, Grevy's zebra and the Lelwel hartebeest, there are also seven rhino sanctuaries here and you may be lucky enough to see the now rare black rhino. Spend two nights at the stunning, luxury Sweetwaters tented camp, set on the foothills of Mount Kenya and with amazing views and close proximity to wildlife; it’s a wonderful place to stay. You can spend your time here taking game drives, visiting the rhino sanctuaries (optional) or watching the wildlife at the camp’s watering hole. Also on the second evening you will head out for a night game drive that can offer a very different experience.

Day 7 - Lake Nakuru - Sopa Lodge
After breakfast your guide will take you to the Premium Lake Nakuru (3 hours) where you could see over 400 different species of birds, large numbers of white rhinos, the rare Rothschild giraffe and other plains mammals such as lion, zebra and buffalo. On entering the park you will take a game drive en route to your accommodation at Sopa Lodge that has great views over the lake and park; all the rooms are very spacious and are located at the top of a ridge, all with views over the lake. After lunch you'll head out into the park for a game drive before returning to the lodge for dinner.

Day 8 - Lake Naivasha - Sopa Lodge
After breakfast you’ll head out on a game drive through Nakuru park, you'll leave late morning and head down the Rift Valley to lake Naivasha and the Sopa Resort (1.5 hours), where you’ll arrive in time for lunch. The lodge is in a lovely location by the lake and often has wildlife wandering around the grounds such as zebra and giraffe. The main building has an interior garden, fireplace and low comfy leather sofas and the rooms themselves are spacious, Swahili style chalets either with a balcony or a glass fronted lounge area for relaxing and wildlife viewing. After lunch you’ll take a boat safari across the lake where you may see hippos and many species of birds including fish eagles and pelicans. You’ll also stop at Crescent Island for a guided nature walk where you can get close to some of the less dangerous plains mammals! Then retire to the lodge for the evening where you can take a swim, have dinner and watch the hippos come up from the Lake to graze in Sopa’s grounds.

Day 9 to 11 - Masai Mara - Mara Leisure Camp
After an early breakfast your driver will take you to the open grassland of the Masai Mara (4 hours), rich in biodiversity and home to a large variety of bird species and wildlife, the Masai Mara offers great game viewing and bird watching opportunities. You’ll arrive in time for lunch at Marasa's Mara Leisure Camp, which is situated right on the northern border of the game reserve near the banks of the Talek river. The camp has good facilities, a buffet style restaurant and pool. After lunch you’ll head out for a game drive and then spend the next two days taking game drives at your leisure, exploring the Mara reserve and tracking down all the Big Five. You are not restricted to times and length of game drives with us and you can spend the whole day out exploring the reserve if you wish. You can of course also spend some time relaxing in camp and enjoying the camp’s facilities.

Daniel arranged a customized safari for my husband and friend. From the initial contact to the conclusion of the trip was amazing. The lodging, the places visited, the activities arranged and the transportation were all excellent. Tony who is the driver/guide was very attentive, interesting, knowledgeable and had a great personality. I researched this trip for almost a year and contacted many companies but just didn't feel comfortable for one reason or the other. I'm so glad I went with Transtrek. Daniel has the patience of Job because I drove him nuts with questions and he answered all of them and sometimes twice. I highly recommend Daniel and Tanstrek.

Daniel and his colleagues arranged a safari tour for me and my wife in November 2015, we found the company to offer a very personal service, paid a lot of attention to our requests and after about 30 emails and a Skype call we ended up with a customised tour that met all our requirements. The trip itself was great, they have their own vehicles and drivers in Kenya, vehicle was in good condition and had a lifting roof for game viewing and our guide was very knowledgeable and managed to find all the Big Five and many other animals for us to photograph.

The selection of lodges and camps was also really good, the best food we had was at a little camp in Tsavo called Epiya Chapeyu. People were friendly and service was pretty good everywhere, the only thing we would have changed was the drive to the Masai Mara which was very long and a bumpy ride but apart from that we would highly recommend Daniel and his colleagues at Transtrek Safaris, they really looked after us well.
