Egypt is best known as the home of the ancient Egyptian civilization, with its temples, hieroglyphs, mummies, and - visible above all - its pyramids. Less well-known is Egypt's medieval heritage, courtesy of Coptic Christianity and Islam - ancient churches, monasteries and mosques punctuate the Egyptian landscape.

Egypt stimulates the imagination of western tourists like few other countries and is probably one of the most popular tourist destinations world-wide.

We were a family of three people wanting to tour Egypt extensively and did not want to do a standard group tour. Our tour was for 12 days from Cairo to Luxor and Aswan. I contacted this tour operator through tourist link and the prompt response from the owner Nermin Magdy impressed me. In minutes I received a suggested itenary and then there was no looking back. The planning of the sightseeing, internal flights and hotels all was done by this agency. The guides provided were a store house of information on Egypt, Egyptologists truly. I was not interested in the regular Cruise tours so a road and air travel itenary was planned for us specifically. A tip here is that if you dont do a cruise you can include Dandara sightseeing also. A faluka ride for an hour was planned to get a feel of the Nile River. I highly recommend this tour operator for groups, cruise or non-cruise travel, custom holiday palnning.

After I had read about the various places and had clear ideas of the trip, I had interacted with half a dozen tour operators to help plan our first trip to see ancient Egypt. The responses were either as “canned” tours which included places, activities and transportation in which we had no interest or with threadbare information. By chance, I contacted Nermin Magdy, owner of Egypt Best Day Tours with my request.
Nermin responded with lightning speed with an itinerary without missing the required details. With email and Whatapp messages she recommended the places we should visit, altered the itinerary several times to suit our requirements, handled our flight reservations, accommodation bookings and the road travel for our 12-day trip, all at reasonable cost. She had arranged for us to be met as we got off the plane and our baggage cleared in quick time. Though we landed in Cairo at a very early hour, she welcomed us enthusiastically at the airport in person and took care of us till she saw us off at Cairo for our flight home. She and her company receive all 5 star reviews they richly deserve. Professionally, Nermin is a very gentle, friendly young lady, communicates in fluent English, completely honest in dealing with her guests, has immense knowledge about her country and has great connections and familiarity with the officials and personnel at the tourist sites which takes the stress out of travel and makes it appear seamless. She also took the initiative of upgrading our hotel in Luxor at the same rates to offer a memorable hospitality experience.
She is also a wonderful person and we could connect with her immediately. She offered expert advice on vegetarian food and was a wonderful host, treating us to a super home cooked meal that we enjoyed at her residence. Unlike other tour agencies she personally helped us navigate the labyrinth of Khan el Khalili market, advising on what to avoid and even bargaining local style for us to get great deals. She should write a book for her guests titled “Bargaining for Dummies”.
Youssef Ahmed was the guide appointed by Nermin for our visits in Cairo city, Giza, Alexandria, Memphis, Saqqara and Dahshur. Eminently knowledgeable, fluent in English, he is a gregarious gentleman always ready to help with hotel staff, changing money, taking photos or getting rid of pesky hawkers and everything else in between. His legendary knowledge about the history, traditions, politics and civilization of ancient and modern Egypt was a learning process for us. Without his expertise, we would have been unable to appreciate the magnificent exhibits of the Egyptian Museum in such a short time. He introduced us to various establishments to buy quality Egyptian goods and mementoes advising and assisting in obtaining deals we expected. With him, I enjoyed an evening of coffee and football, in true local style.
Nermin had arranged for Elia to be our guide for our visits in Luxor, Valley of Kings, Deir al-Bahri, Dendera, Abydos, Edfu, Kom Ombo, Aswan and Abu Simbel. Elia is a walking encyclopaedia on all the attractions of these locations. He revealed a depth of knowledge in excellent English that left no question relating to Egyptology unanswered. Elia has a quiet, reserved personality but was always concerned about our safety and ensured we got to experience the best his country has to offer. However, in Aswan at the end our time together, he showed us another remarkable ability by bargaining for our purchase of dates on our behalf.
We had a supremely safe, fascinating and enjoyable tour of exotic Egypt, as we were blessed with the help, kindness and expertise of these exceptional people who have become our good friends for life. To all of them I say Shukraan.
To those who wish to tour Egypt, I would recommend Nermin of Egypt Best Day Tours to ensure you come back home with a smile and incredibly happy memories.
