Day 2: Nairobi City – Aberdare Mountains National Park

Safari to the Aberdare Mountains
You’ll depart from your hotel in Nairobi after breakfast and drive towards the Aberdare Mountains around noon. After a delicious lunch at the Aberdares Country Club, you’ll check in to The Ark, a unique tree-top style lodge set in the thick woodlands in the heart of Aberdares National Park. The lodge overlooks a busy watering hole which attracts a host of wildlife. Elephants, rhinos, leopards and bushbucks are all frequently seen here. The lodge’s numerous balconies and lounges provide superb game viewing and photographic opportunities. The afternoon is usually spent with game viewing from the lodge. Additional activities such as nature walks and game drives can be arranged at the lodge (not included in the package).

Day 3: Aberdares Mountains – Lake Nakuru National Park

Flamingos & Rothschild Giraffe at Lake Nakuru
After breakfast you proceed to Lake Nakuru, one of the rift valley soda lakes known for the thousands, sometimes millions, of flamingoes which nest along the shores. The surface of the shallow lake is often hardly recognizable due to the continually shifting mass of pink. The number of flamingos on the lake varies with water and food conditions, and the best vantage point is from Baboon Rocks. You can also visit the nearby fenced-off sanctuary which protects the rare Rothschild giraffe and black rhinos. You’ll stay overnight at the Lion Hill Lodge at Lake Nakuru which is located close to the entrance with a view over the lake.

Day 4: Lake Nakuru National Park – Masai Mara Game Reserve
The Greatest Migration on Earth
If you’re up for it, you can join an early morning game drive through Lake Nakuru National Park, then after breakfast you’ll proceed to Masai Mara, possibly spotting various animals along the way, including many birds, and herds of antelope, zebra, giraffe, elephant, gazelle, etc. Lunch will be served at Elsamere Conservation, the former home of George and Joy Adamson, famous for their work with lions and the book and movie ‘Born Free’. Once you arrive at Masai Mara, you’ll go for an afternoon game drive where you might get to see all of the “Big Five” game animals and many other wild animals before settling in at your lodge for the evening.

Day 5: Full day Game drives in Masai Mara Game Reserve

Masai Mara
Today you will have a full-day game drive through the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Depending on the time of year, you will have the opportunity to visit the famous Mara River where all different kinds of animals mingle to drink water. You’ll sit down to a picnic lunch in the bush near the river. At either Masai Mara National Park or Serengeti National Park in Tanzania, you’ll have the chance to see the ‘Great Migration’ where upwards of 1.5 million of wildebeest and zebras move across the plains. After the game drive you’ll return to your lodge for the night.

Day 6: Masai Mara Game Reserve – Isebania border – Lake Victoria Tanzania

A Day with the Locals at Lake Victoria
You’ll rise in time for an early morning game drive through the Masai Mara, and return to the lodge in time for breakfast. You’ll proceed to Isebania where you’ll cross the border into Tanzania. After the visa and border procedures are complete, you’ll drive along the lakeshore to Musoma, one of the major towns on Lake Victoria. In Musoma you’ll set out on a speedboat which will take you to an island in the middle of the lake, where you’ll be staying at a private island retreat. Spend the rest of the day at leisure and maybe go for a swim in the warm water of Lake Victoria.

Day 7: Lake Victoria – Serengeti National Park
Serengeti National Park & the Western Corridor
In the morning you go out for a boat trip on Lake Victoria with the local fishermen. After returning to dry land, you’ll proceed to Ndabaka Gate and enter the Serengeti through the Western Corridor. You pass through green savannah where elephants and giraffes roam, through a stretch of territory which is rarely visited by travelers, to reach the central Serengeti. The name Serengeti comes from the Maasai word “Siringet” referring to an endless plain. As you traverse the park you’ll begin to understand the reason behind this name. Your lodge for the night located at the Niaroboro Hills where you’ll have spectacular views through huge panorama windows.

Day 8: Full day at Serengeti National Park
Enjoy the Day in the Serengeti
Today you’ll have a full-day game drive around Serengeti National Park. You can expect to see wildebeest, lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, monkeys, baboons, hippos, rhinos, antelopes and many birds and other species. The route you will be taking through the park will be flexible as your guide will aim to show you as many animals as possible. You’ll track the great migration on its way to Masai Mara, and once you’ve had your fill of big game spotting, you’ll return to your lodge for the night. You will also have the opportunity to go up in a hot air balloon to get a bird’s eye view of the migration (not included).

Day 9: Serengeti National Park – Ngorongoro Crater
Ngorongoro Crater
An early morning game drive after tea/coffee is the best time to see the animals as they come out of hiding to hunt or are just returning from their nightly hunt. After breakfast you’ll leave for Ngorongoro Conservation Area. On the way, you’ll stop at the Olduvai Gorge where anthropologists Louis and Mary Leakey made many significant discoveries in the early 20th century which have contributed greatly to the theory that human life originated in Africa. You’ll arrive in Ngorongoro in time for lunch.
In the afternoon you go for a nature walk escorted by a local guide over the Northern Crater Rim inhabited by buffaloes, elephants and different species of monkeys. You’ll spend the night at your lodge where you’ll have a wonderful view over the crater.

Day 10: Full day Game drive in the Ngorongoro Crater floor
Coffee Grinding and the Ngorongoro Crater floor
After breakfast you’ll descend into the crater for a game drive inside the Ngorongoro National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site holding a permanent population of more than 30,000 different animals.
As only very few animals migrate in and out of the crater because of its 2,000 ft. high walls, you can expect to see lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, hippos, flamingos, jackals, rhinos, antelopes, many birds and other species. The crater is also home to the rare black rhino, almost extinct in Tanzania. With a bit of luck you will see the ‘Big Five’ during one game drive. Lunch will be served on the crater floor, and you’ll head back to your lodge in time for dinner and a relaxing evening.

Day 11: Ngorongoro Crater – Lake Manyara National Park
The Tree-Climbing Lions of Manyara
In the morning you drive to Lake Manyara National Park, nestled at the base of the Great Rift Valley Escarpment. The park is recognized for its incredible beauty with lush vegetation and tropical forests containing giant fig and mahogany trees. Many elephants, giraffes, buffalo, zebras and a variety of antelope inhabit the park as well as monkeys and a large population of hippos.
If you are lucky you may see the Manyara lions, well known for their habit of climbing and lazily resting on the branches of the “Acacia tortilis” tree. The bird life is also abundant, with flamingos, pelicans, hornbills and plenty of forest species. You’ll be staying at Bougainvillea Safari Lodge, in Karatu near Lake Manyara.
