Djebel Saghro Trekking in Morocco 8 Days
The Jebel Saghro is a volcanic massif made of disturbed rocks, rocky peaks and basaltic conglomerates. This massif, separates the valley of the Draa to the Dades Valley. Its highest point is Amalou N’mnsour reaching 2700 m.
The scenery is almost lunar; it is a very mineral world, raw and sometimes interspersed with narrow valleys and deep canyons. Here and there you will meet the Ait Atta nomads who come down from M’goun at the cold season in order to graze their herds of goats and camels.
Jbel Saghro Massif lies between the High Atlas mountains and the Sahara desert. We’ll traverse the range, ending on the Sahara side of Saghro.
High peaks and volcanic monoliths resemble the U.S. southwest with soaring mesas, sparse vegetated plateaus, hidden springs and canyon oasis. We’ll meet and have tea with Ait Atta nomads living in this harsh and remote landscape. Jackal, fox, wolf, toads, frogs, wild sheep, gazelle, vulture, Buzzard and the rare Bonelli-eagle also live here. Trees include date palms, acacia, tamarisk and oleander.
