Day 1: Johannesburg - Kruger National Park
Departing from Johannesburg early in the morning we drive along a scenic route to the entrance of the Kruger National Park. Here we transfer to a specially designed open safari vehicle. Game viewing begins as soon as we enter the gates, and we look for giraffe, zebra and various antelope species on our way to the camp, where we arrive by sunset. Dinner is usually prepared by the guide and may take the form of a traditional South African braai (barbecue), weather permitting. Alternatively, we sometimes make use of the camp restaurant. Fall asleep to the sound of hippos snorting or lions roaring in the distance.

Day 2: Kruger National Park
This morning we wake up early to explore the Kruger Park on foot in the company of an armed Kruger Park ranger. Your itinerary may include either a morning walk or afternoon walk, depending on availability (maximum 8 people per walk). A bush walk is designed with safety as the top priority, and the focus is on appreciating the smaller wonders of the wild. It is not compulsory and if you would prefer not to walk or are unable to walk much, we can also substitute the bush walk with a game drive. Relax around the pool during the midday hours, and then mid-afternoon we head out on another game drive in our comfortable open safari vehicle, looking for wildlife. Enjoy a delicious dinner, expertly prepared by your guide.

Day 3: Kruger National Park
We embark on another early morning game drive in the Kruger National Park in search of animals. While looking for wildlife we visit waterholes, lookout points and beautiful picnic spots, stopping at regular intervals so you can stretch your legs and enjoy some refreshments. After breakfast at a picnic site in the bush, we return to the camp around lunchtime, where you can spend the hot midday hours relaxing at the pool, browsing through the curio shop or watching animals from the deck overlooking the river. In the afternoon we may head out on a sunset drive with one of the Kruger Park’s rangers, continuing after dark with spotlights to look for nocturnal animals. We return to camp at around 8pm for dinner. Alternatively, instead of a sunset drive we might do a night drive after dinner (this depends on availability).

Day 4: Kruger National Park - Panorama Route - Johannesburg
You will be picked up early morning from the gate (no morning game drive). After checking out, a representative will meet you and transfer you back to Johannesburg, via the Panorama Route. The transfer route will include some of the most iconic Panorama Route attractions, including Lisbon Falls, Blyde River, Three Rondavels and God's Window.

I plan to take a holiday in the next year. I contacted a few companies but Open Road Tours gave me the best service by far. Within an hour of me sending the email, they acknowledged it and said they would phone me to ascertain my needs. They promised me to get back with an itinerary that they would prepare within 24 hours which they duly did. I am not ready to commit yet but as soon as I have dates available I will definitely approach Hannah at Open Road Tours. From Angie Ofsowitz
