Kyle was founded in 1881 by Captain Fergus Kyle. The site was chosen due to its proximity to the International Great Northern Railroad line. Kyle is located at about 22 miles (35km) south of Downtown Austin, and 53 miles northeast of San Antonio. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.0square miles (16Square kilometers), of which, 5.9square miles (15Square kilometers) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26Square kilometers) of it (1.34%) is water. Kyle is a town in Hays County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,314 at the 2000 census; it was 26,103 in the 2008 census estimate, making Kyle one of the fastest growing cities in Texas.
