Hidalgo is located across the Rio Grande (Rio Bravo del Norte) from the Mexican city of Reynosa, Tamaulipas. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 4.4square miles (11Square kilometers), of which, 4.3 square miles (11Square kilometers) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26Square kilometers) of it (2.03%) is water. Hidalgo is a city in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. The population was 11,198 at the 2010 census. It is home to the Rio Grande Valley Magic of the Southern Indoor Football League, the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League, and the Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA Development League, who play in the local State Farm Arena (Formerly Dodge Arena), also a concert venue serving the McAllenEdinburgMission Metropolitan Statistical Area.
