Falfurrias is a city in and the county seat of Brooks County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,297 at the 2000 census. The town is named for founder Edward Cunningham Lasater's ranch, La Mota de Falfurrias. In 1893, the Falfurrias ranch was one of the largest in Texas at some 350,000 acres. Falfurrias is centered around the intersection of U.S. Highway281 and State Highway285. Falfurrias is approximately 81miles southwest of Corpus Christi, 90miles southeast of Laredo, and 36miles south of Alice. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 2.8square miles (7.3Square kilometers), all of it land.
