Smith Creek Trail approaches Mount Moriah from the east side. This trail does not provide access to the top but follows a clear fast running creek for about 4 miles. Its an impressive canyon with large limestones cliffs and some caves. I have heard some reports of rock arts in the caves.
A great place for solitude and beautiful views in a fantastic setting. From Ely, head SE on highway 50 for about 60 miles until you reach Utah 159. Turn left (north) and follow for 17.1 mi. until you reach the sign for Smith Creek. Turn left at the sign, bear left at the fork at 2.7 mi. and follow for another 2.9 mi. until you reach the Smith Creek Trail head. This is one of the least used routes in the Mount Moriah region and is 3.7 miles long with an elevation gain of 3985 feet.
