Rufus is a city in Sherman County, Oregon, United States. The population was 268 at the 2000 census. The city was named for an early settler, Rufus Carrol Wallis. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2), of which 1.2 square miles (3.1 km2) is land and 0.04 square miles (0.10 km2) is water. The total area is 1.65% water.
