A lovely, scenic beach open all year round just ¼ mile from the Big Sur Ranger Station, right smack dab in the center of Big Sur, about 25 miles south of Monterey along Highway 1. Famous for its sea cave that captures the light during the late fall and early winter, making for an incredible view.
Pfeiffer Big Sur State Park is just two miles up the path, surrounded by a trail of coastal redwood groves, which ends at a 60-foot high waterfall. Remote, scenic and easily accessible this beach is a must when driving through Big Sur. There is no overnight camping at Pfeiffer Beach.
CLIMATE : While Pfeiffer Beach is infamous for sunsets and draws many a photographer, it tends to be a bit too chilly for sunbathing, due to wind. As with most of the central coast, fog is common and the weather can vary throughout the course of the Day. Layered clothing is advisable.
ACTIVITIES : Hiking, fishing, photography and scenic viewing along the beach’s shores. There are several campsites available for overnight camping up and down the coast. At the North end, nude bathing is allowed.
