To reach the ghost town of Old Paria, continue driving on Movie Set Road past the Old Movie Set. The road becomes rough but is passable in good weather. The Old Paria cemetery is located a half mile up the road from the movie set. The tombstones are old and weathered. A monument has been erected to identify and commemorate the people buried here. The road can be driven almost all the way to the Paria River.
A number of old ranch houses are located on the opposite bank, so getting to these houses requires wading across the knee-deep Paria River. Old Paria was settled in the early 1870s by Mormon pioneers. Cattle grazed in the valley and crops grew along the river. A number of floods in the 1880s made agriculture difficult, and the town was abandoned. The remains of a few old ranches can also be found farther up the Paria River.
