Jackson is a city in and the county seat of Jackson County, Ohio, United States. The population was 6,184 at the 2000 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 7.8 square miles (20km2), of which, 7.5 square miles (19km2) of it is land and 0.2 square miles (0.52km2) of it (3.22%) is water. As of the census of 2000, there were 6,184 people, 2,667 households, and 1,712 families residing in the city. The population density was 823.4 people per square mile (317.9/km). There were 2,905 housing units at an average density of 386.8 per square mile (149.4/km). The racial makeup of the city was 98.19% White, 0.44% African American, 0.19% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 0.29% from other races, and 0.60% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.86% of the population.
