Lakota is a city in, and the county seat of, ,Nelson County North Dakota in the United States. The population was 672 at the 2010 census. Lakota was founded in 1883. There were 345 households, of which 25.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.6% were married couples living together, 7.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.3% were non-families. 36.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 24.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.10 and the average family size was 2.74. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.0-square-mile (2.6km2), all land.
