The New Rich Street Bridge in Columbus, Ohio in fact replaced the deteriorated earth filled arch bridge built with concrete in 1914. The new modern open rib arch structure is one among the three Scioto River crossings within the Columbus historic Civic Center. The design criteria set up was selected keeping in mind the structure of the adjoining bridges, merging & respecting the architectural quality & character of the historic Civic Center.
The New Rich Street Bridge is 5-span & 563 foot long elegant structure supported by 4 rows of concrete arches integrally constructed with four girder lines. The resulting bridge is a rigid frame consisting of precast concrete arches & girders segments utilizing high strength lightweight materials. With lightings, railings & architectural details in modern style, it reflects exactly what Columbus stands for.
