Carlsbad is a city in and the county seat of Eddy County, New Mexico, in the United States. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 26,138. Carlsbad is the center of the designated micropolitan area of Carlsbad-Artesia, which has a total population of 55,435. It is a center for potash, petroleum production, and tourism. According to the United States Census Bureau, Carlsbad has a total area of 28.4 square miles (74 Square Kilometer). 28.3 square miles (73 Square Kilometer) of the city is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 Square Kilometer) is water.
