This palm tree lined beach is the perfect place to come and sit with a book. You can lounge on the grass, the sand or on one of several park benches that line the boardwalk. La Jolla Shores is tucked into the La Jolla residential community, a short distance from the quaint and ritzy downtown, which boasts expensive clothing stores, touristy hotels, shops and art galleries.
This family beach is great for picture taking and picnicking. The one mile of shoreline with the beautiful backdrop of impressive architecture and the active boardwalk which follows the length of beach all make for a picturesque and tranquil Day out. The paved boardwalk is great for walking, jogging, bicycling or rollerblading.
La Jolla Shores is convienent for laying out, going for a stroll or tossing the Frisbee along the sandy shore or in one of the several grassy areas surrounding the beach. There are an abundance of picnic tables and BBQs available on the grassy areas at both ends of the beach and at Kellogg Park, located behind the main lifeguard station. There are fire rings on the beach for evening bonfires.
La Jolla Shores is accomodating to all ages. Children will enjoy the colorful and modern playground at the south end of the beach. While adults can indulge in the small scale but fun and mellow surf, scuba diving, snorkeling and kayaking. Keep an eye out for surf flags which indicate where to surf and where to swim. Lifeguards are available year round to help out.
La Jolla Shores has the only beachfront boat launch within the city limits. Small vessels can be launched directly into the surf at the foot of Avenida de la Playa, south of the lifeguard station.La Jolla Shores has a huge parking lot that can easily accommodate over three hundred cars. The lot offers free parking and is only a couple feet from the beach. If by chance you can not find parking in the lot, you can park on residential streets close by.
This beach is really popular with the tourists during the summer, especially during mid-day. If you are looking for a quiet day out during this period, it’s best to avoid this beach or better yet, make this a spring, winter or fall destination. It is just as beautiful, but without the hectic summer crowds.
