La Jara is a census-designated place (CDP) in Sandoval County, New Mexico, United States. The population was 209 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Albuquerque Metropolitan Statistical Area. According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 14.2 square miles (37 km2).
As of the census of 2000, there were 209 people, 93 households, and 62 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 14.7 people per square mile (5.7/km²). There were 140 housing units at an average density of 9.9 per square mile (3.8/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 75.60% White, 1.44% Native American, 21.05% from other races, and 1.91% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 79.43% of the population.
