Lawrence may well be the nicest city in Kansas. Lawrence was founded in 1854 by abolitionists and remains a progressive city today, thanks in large part to the intellectual atmosphere engendered by the presence of the University Of Kansas.
There are some good cultural venues to explore in Lawrence Kansas. The Spencer Museum Of Art displays art from around the World, but is particularly well known for its collection of Asian Ceramics. The University of Kansas (called KU, confusingly enough) is the home of the National History Museum, featuring realistic displays of various kinds of wildlife and Annabelle, a 140 million year old, 50-foot long fossil of a Camarasaur.
