Frisco was founded by Henry Recen, and was built because of the mining boom in the area. Frisco was named After two railroads. FR from Francisco and IS from St.LouIS and co from COmpany. Quoted from Frisco Historic Park and Museum brochure. The town was incorporated in 1880.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 1.7 square miles (4.4 km sq), of which, 1.6 square miles (4.1 km sq) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.26 km sq) of it (5.17%) is water.

Frisco was the location of the first official state BBQ challenge in 1993. The event is held annually, and benefits non-profits. In the last fifteen years, the even has raised over $500,000.
