The historical town of Arima is inhibited with Amerindian descendants. The scenic town is hub of several festivities including the February Carnival, Borough Day and Santa Rosa Festival that are held on every August. The Arima Dial which is a giant clock and located at the corner of Queen Street and Broadway is one of the major tourist attractions in Arima. Arena Dam is a huge reservoir, renowned for its nature trails and is an excellent picnic spot.
Nearby attractions include the Aripo Caves located at the summit of El Cerro del Aripa, Trinidad’s highest peak. The caves are renowned for its impressive stalactite and stalagmite formations and are home to several bats and oilbirds. Besides this, the Asa Wright Nature Center is an excellent tourist attraction housing numerous species of birds, tropical plants and wild animals.
