City of Zaječar, the geographic, administrative, economic, political and cultural center of the Zaječar district, is located in Zaječar valley at 137 m above the sea level and and 11 km from the border with Bulgaria.
Deciduous forests dominate in the region, and spread on the slopes of Deli Jovan, Stara Planina and Tupižnica mountains. Hence, the forest cover is most prevalent in the areas of the villages of Vratarnica, Gornja Bela Reka, Lenovac, Lasovo, Mali Izvor, Dubočane and Glogovica.
The region of the city is rich in various forms of wildlife. Some of the species that can be found here are: deer, wild boar, wolf, fox, jackal, badger, wild cat, pine marten and stone marten, hare, pheasant, grey partridge, rock pigeon, turtledove, collared dove, common quail, wild duck, northern goshawk, magpie, hooded crow, pheasant, etc.
