Machu Picchu & Cusco 5 Day Tour

This five day tour includes a visit to the world famous site of Machu Picchu and gives you a chance to explore the historic city of Cusco and the numerous Inca ruins around Cusco's Sacred Valley. Our tour starts in Cusco the ancient capital of the Inca set high in the Andes and surrounded by the beautiful Sacred Valley. When you arrive in Cusco we will pick you up at the airport and we will have time for a tour of the city and visit the fortress of Sacsayhuaman and the Tambomachay Archeological Complex on the outskirts of the city. The following day we will tour the Sacred Valley which includes; the lively markets at Pisac, a buffet lunch in Urubamba and the massive Inca Fortress of Ollantaytambo. On day three we will travel by bus and then train to Aguas Calientes a small town in a deep river gorge below Machu Picchu. You will have free time in the afternoon to explore the area and enjoy the local hot springs. The following morning we will take a short bus ride up to the ruins of Machu Picchu. Your guide will give you a tour of the ancient city and then you will have another couple of hours to explore on your own. After visiting Machu Picchu you will meet your guide in Aguas Calientes for journey back to Cusco by train and bus where you will spend the final night before departing.

Day 1: Arrive Cusco

We will pick you up at the airport when you arrive in Cusco and transfer you to your hotel. Your guide will arrange time for a briefing with you to go over logistics of the tour and we will arrange a half day tour of the city. Your tour will include a visit to Santo Domingo Church which is built on top of the Coricancha one of the most important temples of the Inca Empire. Our next stop is the fortress of Sacsayhuama, noted for its impressive stone walls. We will continue to the Tambomachay Archeological Complex on the outskirts of the city and is known as the bath of the Incas. After exploring the ruins we will return to Cusco for the night.

Day 2: Cusco - Sacred Valley Tour

Today we will tour the famous Sacred Valley of the Incas. Our first stop will be to Pisac with its lively handicraft market and hilltop citadel. Next we head to Urubamba for a buffet lunch with a focus on locally grown products. Our next stop will be Ollantaytambo a massive Inca Fortress with a huge sun temple and bathing complex. Finally, before heading back to Cusco we will visit the markets at Chinchero before heading back to Cusco.

Day 3: Cusco to Aguas Calientes

Today we will pick you up from your hotel at 9am and drive about 2 hours through the Sacred Valley to the train station at Ollantaytambo. Here we will catch the train to Aguas Calientes, a small town in a deep river gorge below Machu Picchu. You will have free time in the afternoon to explore the area and enjoy the local hot springs.

Day 4: Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu to Cusco

We will get an early start today for the short bus ride up to the ruins of Machu Picchu. Your guide will give you a tour of the city and then you will have another couple of hours to explore on your own. Once your finished you will meet your guide in Aguas Calientes for journey back to Cusco by train and bus.

Optional Tour: Wayna Picchu is the mountain directly behind Machu Picchu and is frequently climbed for great views of the mountains. This requires a pre-arranged permit which can be obtained for additional cost. Please ask us if you would like to include the optional hike in the package.
