Commonly known as Holland, Netherlands, located along the North Sea is bordered by Germany to the east and Belgium on the south. A densely populated country with a gorgeous capital, the people, culture and language of the people is often referred to as ‘Dutch’. Boasting a rich cultural heritage, Netherlands is a modern European country today with a highly liberal and international character. With the help of a robust economy, Netherlands has played a key role within Europe. Shipping, fishing, trade and banking have historically brought about a strong foundation to the Dutch prosperity.
Dutch is the official language of the Netherlands which is spoken by a large majority of the population. Recognized as one of the most secular countries in Western Europe, Roman Catholicism is the single largest and the predominant religion in Netherlands. Home to several ‘Master Painters’ and philosophers in the historic past including Rembrandt van Rijn, Johannes Vermeer, Jan Steen, Vincent van Gogh and Spinoza, the Dutch golden-age of the 19th and 20th centuries has produced numerous other masters in various other fields as well.
