Mosul also referred to as "The City of Two Springs" and "The Pearl of the North" is an ancient city that played an important role in the Arab wars of conquest. Because of its strategic location, Mosul served as an important trade center in the Abbasid era. Besides this, other major tourist attractions in Mosul include the ancient Umayyad Mosque which is the first mosque to be built in Iraq in the year 640 AD.
