Godda is a city and a municipality in Godda district in the Indian state of Jharkhand. The district has an area of 2110 km². The district headquarter is Godda.
As of 2001[update] India census, Godda had a population of 37,007. Males constitute 54% of the population and females 46%. Godda has an average literacy rate of 70%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 77%, and female literacy is 63%. In Godda, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age. The parliamentary constituency is Godda. The assembly constituencies are Madhupur, Jarmundi, Poraiyahat, Godda, Dhoraiya (SC) and Chakai. Godda was in Dumka Parliamentary constituency in 1957.
