Covering a total of 34 square kilometers area, Carriacou is the second largest island within the Caribbean islands of Grenada. With Hillsborough featuring as the most significant town, there are four other smaller human settlements located on this island. Surrounded by reefs, Carriacou coastline consists of wave-cut coral, or shoal formations alongside sandy beaches and colorful underwater panoramic seascapes. With a laid back pace, Carriacou creates the right blend for a unique and romantic recipe for a relaxed holiday.
Carriacou features three major interesting cultural festivals. A Carnival, generally held in February or early March before Lent involves public celebrations and a parade with elements of circus; then the Carriacou Regatta which is held in the first weekend of August showcases racing events for locally built boats. Lastly, the Parang Festival which is held on the weekend prior to Christmas celebrates the local traditional music and culture of the Carriacou Island.
