At the southern end of the Zillertal valley, in Hintertux, the Tux waterfalls roar down into the rock basin. Nearby are some remarkable caves. The Schraubenfallhöhle cave with the Schrauben waterfall (1,570m) and the cave at the Spannagelhaus hut (2,530m) has been put under a protective order already in 1964.
The Schraubenfallhöhle cave is 105m long; the Tuxbach brook crosses the cave. At its south-western end there is a fascinating basin; a gorge with the Schraubenfall waterfall continues from there.
At the upper part of the gorge you can get an insight into the underground water system.
