The first church has been founded on this location between 980 and 1000 by one of the three sons of Count Thimo von Vornbach. The original church was built by stages. The Church you see today was erected from 1908 to 1910 century on the foundations of the first church. A new Baroque style Tower was added to the Church in 1741 for the old one was in such a dilapidated state that it had to be demolished.
The present Church in neo-Baroque style has 600 seats and was consecrated in 1910. The foundation stone originates from the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem.
