The Laurentius church is an architectural highlight and decorates the village centre of Wattens. Finds, which have been found during the renovation, as well as the church's name lead to the conclusion that the church was founded already in the Roman era.
In 1318's chronicles the church was mentioned for the first time. The church in its present form (classisistic style) was rebuilt in 1820 after several fires. Since 1983 a bronze plate reminds of Father Jakob Gapp, who was executed in Berlin on August 19, 1943 because he remaind faithful to his religious convictions. Father Jakob Gapp was beatified in Rome in 1996 and is the patron of the lonely, victims of persecution and humans in desperate situations. Jakob Gapp was baptized in the Laurentius church.
