The only remaining open ice caves in western Austria is situation on the high plateau north of Angerberg, 2,9 km north east from Mariastein. The main entrance is at 1.520 m above sea level. The cave is clearly marked either from Inntal over the Buchacker Alm, or from Hinterthiersee lake over the Kögalm and Hundalm.
The caves are open from mid May to the end of September on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays from 10.00 to 16.00. Daily from mid July to end of August (Tirolean school holidays).
From the Schlossblick guest house or from Embach, via Buchacker to the ice caves, approx. 3 hours. From Hinterthiersee lake via Modal and Kögalm to the ice caves, approx. 3 hours.
