The Ötztal glacier road is one of the highest roads in the the Eastern Alps and leads from Sölden (1,377m) to the Rettenbach and Tiefenbach glacier ski regions. With each new turn, breathtaking sights open up. The glacier tunnel (tunnel godmother: Rosi Mittermaier) - the highest road tunnel in the Eastern Alps - joins the two ski regions at a sea level of 2,800 m with a length of 1,7 km. Road and tunnel go straight through with two lanes, the average vertical rise is 11% and because of this it is easily accessible for all cars and buses. It is recommended to take snow chains with you in the autumn months as at this altitude it can snow at any time.
