Burg Vichtenstein is a castle in Upper Austria, Austria. The castle Vichtenstein rises in the "sow forest" (upper Austria) above the Danube valley opposite to the market municipality upper cell (Lower Bavaria). It is in the center of the municipality Vichtenstein. There is no document of the developing year of the castle, but assumeably the castle was established around the year 1100. Since then it was used continuously and inhabited.
Thus the castle was often converted and reconditioned in the whole centuries. The oldest parts of the castle are the alone standing donjon and the building of the gates. The two square apartment towers were developed in the 15. or 16. century. A special object of interest is the Chapel, which was built in 14. Century and extended in 17. Century. The inside of the chapel captivates with a Rib vault with figural Keystones.
