Perth Arena is Perth's premiere entertainment and indoor sporting arena currently under construction in the city centre of Perth, Western Australia, due to be opened officially on the 10th of November 2012. It is located on Wellington Street, on the site of the former carpark for the now demolished Perth Entertainment Centre. The arena is considered to be the first (and western-most) stage of the Perth City Link project which will involve the sinking of the railway line to re-join the Perth CBD with Northbridge. It is currently scheduled to be completed in August 2012 and officially opened on 10 November 2012.
With a maximum capacity of 15,500. Cameron Chisholm & Nicol and ARM Architects have designed the venue to house up to 13,910 for tennis events, 14,846 for basketball and a maximum of 15,500 for concerts. The inspiration for the design of Perth Arena is partly based on the Eternity puzzle and Western Australia's first building the Round House in Fremantle. The venue has a retractable roof, 36 luxury appointed corporate suites, a 680 underground car bay, 5 dedicated function spaces, and touring trucks can drive directly onto the arena floor.
