Spend the day exploring many of the secondary canals of Tortuguero National Park, an area extremely rich in flora and fauna. It’s humid tropical forest is home to many species of birds, insects and wildlife, such as crocodiles, jaguars, howler monkeys and peccaries. This is the most important nesting site in the entire western half of the Caribbean for the green turtle (June-October). Other species of turtles which nest in the park include hawksbills, loggerheads and the giant leatherbacks.
Day 4: Arenal (B, L)
After breakfast, boat transfer to Caño Blanco/Pavona Dock; then land transfer to Guápiles to have lunch, after that relax and enjoy a scenic drive through the countryside of San Carlos Valley to La Fortuna in Arenal. On a clear day you will have an amazing view of the volcano from your hotel.
Day 5: Arenal (B, D)
Morning at your leisure. In the afternoon you will be picked up to enjoy the most extraordinary view of the Arenal Volcano on a gentle Hike along the base. This is a 3½ hour trail and gets as close the Volcano. After this exciting tour you will be dropped Ecotermales Hot Springs where you will experience one of the world’s most amazing offerings. Here you will relax in Mother Nature’s. The hot springs are fed by an underground river heated naturally by the Arenal Volcano to the perfect temperature of 101 degrees. After dinner, you will drive back to your hotel for a wonderful night of rest.
Day 6: Monteverde (B)
Enjoy another great, healthy breakfast and following it you will be driven to Arenal Lake where you will board a boat that will take you across the lake for an amazing trip to Monteverde. At the other side of the lake, a vehicle will be waiting to transfer you to Monteverde and your hotel. Enjoy this wonderful tour and observe the exotic beauty that hosts this paradisiacal place. Admire the transition of the rainforest to the cloud forest where you will reach an altitude of 3,600 feet (1200 meters) above sea level where you can see perhaps the best view of the Monteverde Cloud Forest and the amazing panoramic views of the Arenal Volcano.
Located in the Tilarán Mountain Range at 4,600 ft. above sea level on the edge of the world’s best-known mid-elevation cloud forest, Monteverde Lodge is the expression of Costa Rica Expeditions’ desire to create the ultimate lodging experience for the discerning nature traveler.
Day 7: Monteverde (B)
Today, take one of Costa Rica’s most diverse natural history walks! Positioned atop the Continental Divide in western Costa Rica, the Preserve extends down both the Caribbean and Pacific slopes. The resulting combination of climatic and geographic factors creates temperature and humidity gradients which change dramatically over relatively short distances. Splendid quetzals and Bell-birds fly above the canopy of the forest trees, and iridescent hummingbirds hover around in search of nectar. Because of the activity patterns of animals in this forest, we recommend taking this tour early in the morning so that you can live the experience of seeing wild animals in their natural habitat. Afternoon at your leisure.
Day 8: Guanacaste (B)
After breakfast, you will be picked up and taken to your ultimate destination in Tamarindo Beach. Tamarindo is a truly exotic paradise, one that just happens to be the perfect landscape for a vacation, is a secure, public and family-friendly white sand bay beach, a beautiful beach town that is equally a tropical paradise as well as a multicultural hotspot that has several restaurants, whether you like to eat it is all here.
