Day 2: Our guide will meet you early morning after your breakfast, give you a brief about your safari and set off to Kibale National Park. You will depart west to Fort portal, the town rests in the shadow of the Fabled” mountains of the moon. Continue to KIBALE NATIONAL PARK - check in and have lunch. After you go for an evening walk in bigodi swamp. During the swamp walk watch out for the different bird species and the other flora and fauna. Dine and overnight at Papaya Lake Resort.
Day 3: Chimpanzee Habituation experience.
After your breakfast the guide will transfer you to the forest for the Chimpanzee Habituation experience. The Chimpanzee Habituation Experience entails getting the chimpanzees used to the presence of humans (to remove the fear of humans from the group), a process that takes up to two years – and today you are part of that process by your all day presence in the forest. Years ago, it used to be that you had a 20% chance of seeing chimpanzees in the wild, today because of the habituation process that has increased to over 90%.Your day will be full, your camera will fill up with quality pictures of the chimpanzees and you will get to learn to identify them as individuals by their markings, sometimes scars and other unique features that make them stand apart from rest.
The day ends as the chimpanzees climb into their newly built nests for the evening and you head back to your lodging for the evening. Dine and overnight at Papaya Lake Resort.
Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park through Ishasha.
After an early Breakfast, drive out southwards through the Ishasha sector. There is a possibility of coming across the tree climbing lions and other wildlife. This sector is famous for the tree climbing lions. After a short drive around continue to Bwindi. Dinner and overnight at Volcanoes Bwindi Lodge
Day 5: Gorilla trekking day - Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park
The highlight of your safari- meeting with the gentle giants of Bwindi! Expect to walk in steep and muddy conditions, sometimes with rain overhead, before you encounter any gorillas. But it will definitely be worthwhile as you observe them closely while they eat, play and rest. A unique and unforgettable experience! Dinner and overnight at Volcanoes Bwindi Lodge
Day 6: Transfer to Mgahinga National Park
After breakfast you will head south of Bwindi impenetrable national park to Mgahinga. Dinner and overnight at Mount Gahinga Lodge
Day 7: Golden monkey Trekking & discover the traditions of the Batwa Pygmies
After enjoying an early breakfast, drive to the park headquarters for briefing, then with a ranger guide move through the bamboo forest in search of the rare Golden monkeys, endemic to this region. You will return to the lodge after you golden monkey trekking. The afternoon is reserved for a visit to the Batwa community. Discover the traditions of the Batwa Pygmies, and learn about the native tribal inhabitants of the forest. The indigenous people of Mgahinga forest, though no longer resident in the forest, still practice many of their traditional hunter-gatherer skills, also meet medicine men, story tellers as well visit the cultural sites of the Batwa and other performances in the Garama cave. Alternatively walk through the local village and learn about community projects. Back to your lodge for Dinner and overnight at Mount Gahinga Lodge
Day 8: Transfer to Ruhengeri in Rwanda
After breakfast, we will transfer to the Rwanda/Uganda Border Crossing through Cyanika then to Ruhengeri- Afternoon Community tour/cultural experience. Dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorilla view lodge
Day 9: Gorilla trekking day in Volcanoes National Park
After breakfast, in the morning you will gather at the park headquarters together with your tracking gear and packed lunch for a briefing before heading in the forest to track the gorillas. This may take 2-8 hours depending on the movements of the animals. You are allowed to be with these awesome mountain gorillas for about an hour. Dinner and overnight at Mountain Gorilla view lodge
Day 10: Transfer to Lake Kivu
After a morning breakfast, transfer to Lake Kivu. Afternoon boat cruise on Lake Kivu. Dinner and overnight at Lake Kivu Serena
Day 11: Transfer to Goma.
After your breakfast at your hotel, you will be picked and transferred to Gisenyi which is the largest port on L. Kivu. A boat cruise of Africa’s highest lake will reward you with captivating views of islands and far sights of the Nyiragongo volcano. Have lunch there and proceed to cross the border with Congo to the town of Goma which is the capital of the North Kivu province. Overnight in Goma.
Day 12: Hike to the top of Nyiragongo Volcanic Mountain
In the morning, you will pack your luggage and get ready to hike one of the most active and violent volcanoes on the Continent with the world’s most fluid and largest lava lake. Nyiragongo Volcano is located in the east of DRC, around 19 km from Goma, and is the most active volcano in the world. In 1997 and 2002, flows of very liquid lava broke out from cracks in the volcanic slopes as lava flowed at a terrific speed killing scores of people and displacing hundreds of thousands in the town of Goma. The 4-5 hour hike through lush rainforest will climax with a fascinating view of this lava lake as you chill out for a night at the crater rim. Overnight in tents at the top of the volcano.
Day 13: Descend the Volcano and transfer to Kigali
After breakfast, start your descent for a transfer back to Gisenyi where you will later transfer to Kigali for an overnight or a late flight back home.
