Pineville is a city in Bell County, Kentucky, United States. The population was 2,093 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Bell County. It is located on a small strip of land between the Cumberland River and Pine Mountain. Pineville is one of the oldest settlements in Kentucky, tracing back to 1781 and a settlement called Cumberland Ford. It was part of a tract of land once owned by Isaac Shelby, Kentucky's first governor. When Bell County was formed in 1867, Cumberland Ford was the obvious choice, but a courthouse was not completed until 1871. The settlement incorporated in 1889 as Pineville.
