Tour leader, David Urmann, takes you to see the most popular highlights of the park and into the backcountry to explore a side of the park most visitors don’t see. This 10 day trip starts with a 3-day backpack through the remote and isolated southwest corner of the park know as the Cascade Corner for its large number of waterfalls. Locals call this backpack the ultimate Yellowstone experience. The hike takes us past Cave Falls and into the Bechler Meadows before heading over the Pitchstone Plateau and into the Firehole drainage. It ends near the Old Faithful Geyser Basin where the vehicles pick us up. We spend the next 3 days exploring the highlights of the park including; Yellowstone Lake and Falls, Swimming on the Firehole River, Viewing boiling mudpots in Norris Geyser Basin and looking for bears and wolves in Lamar Valley. The trip is designed to be active and explore the park on foot rather than sitting in the car.

Day 1 - Arrive either at Salt Lake City or Jackson Hole Wyoming

We will pick you up upon arrival from the airport and drop you at a downtown hotel where you can spend the rest of the day touring Salt Lake. We will have an evening briefing on our trip and load luggage into our 4wd vehicles.

Day 2 - Drive to Cave Falls

We spend the day driving to Cave Falls at a leisurely pace enjoying several short stops along the way. We spend the night camping near Cave Falls.

Days 3 to 5 - Backpack 28 miles from Cave Falls

to the Lonestar Trailhead near Old Faithful. Easy hiking through meadows and canyons give you the ultimate Yellowstone experience. Spend a night camping at Mr.Bubbles and soak in the thermal waters. Pass by Bechler Falls and Collonade Falls as well as backcountry thermal areas. Its a great place to get a chance to see wildlife including bears. On the last day we get picked up from the trailhead and head to West Yellowstone to spend the night and clean up.

Day 6 - Old Faithful Geyser Basin

We spend a leisurely day exploring the thermal areas near Old Faithful and swimming on the Firehole River before spending the night in West Yellowstone

Day 7 - Norris and Mammoth Geyser Basin

We explore Norris Geyser Basin in the morning before taking lunch and heading to the Mammoth area. We spend the night camping near the historic town of Gardner the Northern Park entrance.

Day 8 - Lamar Valley and Mt. Washburn

We get an early start to reach the Lamar Valley for sunrise. The Lamar has been called the Serengeti of America and we have a good chance of seeing either Grizzlies or Wolves from the highway viewing area. We spend the afternoon hiking to the top of Mt. Washburn for excellent views of the park. We camp overnight at either Canyon or Fishing Village in the center of the park.

Day 9 - Yellowstone Lake and Falls and return to Jackson Hole/Salt Lake City

We view the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone and the Falls before driving south around Yellowstone Lake. We depart the park and head back to either Jackson or Salt Lake City as per individual needs. We spend the night in a hotel.

Day 10 - End of Trip Depart via Jackson Hole or Salt Lake City

We drop you at the airport to connect to your departing flight.
