The Kasubi Tombs

Situated on the picturesque Kasubi hill, The Kasubi Tombs, located on the picturesque Kasubi hill are also known as the Ssekabaka's tombs are the royal burial place of four Kabakas or kings of Buganda Empire. Built in 1881, this 26.8 hectares site is unique in construction and a symbol of Buganda nation’s social, political and spiritual aspects. The main building, which is a hut shaped circular and surmounted dome, built by organic materials like thatch, reed, principally wood, wattle and daub. Recognized as a UNESCO World heritage site, these tombs display an exceptional paradigm of traditional architecture and Ganda Traditions.

Apart of the tombs of the royal kings of Buganda Empire, visitors will find some other interesting collection of royal artifacts such as rare traditional musical instruments, ancient weapons, shields and a stuffed leopard of king Mutesa I. there are four Kabakas buried in Kasubi Tombs, which are Muteesa I (1835-1884), Basamula Mwanga II (1867-1903), Daudi Chwa II (1896-1939) and Fredrick Walugembe Muteesa II (1924-1969).
