Due to its location, the airport often experiences strong Katabatic wind and is forced to close. Because of this, the load factor of the flights rarely exceeds 40%; airlines are considering to file application for withdrawing services to Hengchun.

As of September 2007, only Uni Air serves a single destination to Taipei Songshan Airport. Only Mandarin Airlines and TransAsia Airways also ever served this route before but finally dropped out due to poor load factor and Hengchun Peninsular's seasonal strong winds which make landing and take off dangerous.
