This square emerged in the 12th century because of the annual fair which brought together a great multitude of people. During the 15th century it was surrounded by arcades with semicircular arches supported on stone pillars . This is one of the largest squares in Spain. One of the most important gates is The Arch of La Estrella (The Star) by Manuel de Lara y Churriguera.
